The RYA Coastal Skipper course is designed to suit yachtsmen and women with considerable knowledge of sailing and navigation. We recommend attending the RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore theory course prior to the practical.
Our highly experienced RYA Instructors will guide you through the most challenging passages around the breathtaking islands of Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
What You Will Learn
Our RYA Coastal Skipper practical training consists of skippering passages in a variety of situations and conditions.
Detailed passage planning, pilotage by day and night, boat handling, safety and emergency situations are all included in the RYA Coastal Skipper practical course.
RYA Coastal Skipper Course Prerequisites
Pre-course experience | 15 days, 2 days as skipper, 300 miles, 8 night hours. |
Assumed knowledge | Boat handling to the standard of Day Skipper and navigation to Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore level. |
Minimum duration | 7 days |
Minimum age | 17 |
RYA Coastal Skipper Course Details
Duration | 7 days/6 nights – intensive yet enjoyable. 10 days/9 nights – relaxed course pace including additional hours with instructor. |
Included | Accommodation on yacht during your practical course, mooring fees, water and diesel used. All breakfasts, lunches, snacks, non-alcoholic drinks, and three evening meals on yacht per course. Use of snorkelling equipment and waterproofs. Tuition as booked with all course and certification materials. Fully insured and RYA inspected training vessel, with experienced RYA instructor and all safety equipment as required. |
Excluded | Flights, transfers, customs clearance between islands (if applicable), and any meals or drinks bought ashore. Alcoholic drinks are not included, but you are welcome to bring your own for consumption after training ends each day. |
Yacht options | Join one of our group courses (maximum 4 students) or privately charter the yacht for highly personalised tuition. |
Cabin options | Private ensuite cabin with double sized bed (suitable for a couple or a single). Single saloon berth (non private and shared head with instructor). |
Course content | Passage planning, preparation for sea, pilotage, passage making and ability as skipper, yacht handling under power, yacht handling under sail, adverse weather conditions and handling emergency situations. |
